Rhode Island Real Estate License Renewal Questions Answered for 2024
As you know, 24 hours of continuing education are required every two years, on even numbered years (2024, 2026, 2028, etc.). Renewal notices for all Rhode Island real estate licenses expiring on April 30, 2024, will be sent out no later than Feb. 15, 2024, so please make sure your email address on file is up to date. All notifications are now mailed electronically.

Q: Which continuing ed courses are required to be completed by April 30, 2024?
A: RI real estate licensees need to complete 24 hours of continuing ed during each two year renewal cycle. These credits can be completed at any point during the cycle, you don’t have to wait until the second year, or April 29th to start your CE. At least nine of the 24 credit hours must be approved as Core. At least three of these Core credits must be approved for Fair Housing credit. The remaining 15 credits can be comprised of elective topics. You can complete more than nine Core credits, but you cannot complete less than nine. Q: How can I contact the Real Estate Department at the RI DBR?
A: You can email them directly at DBR.REInquiry@dbr.ri.gov or fill out the contact form through the online inquiry system on their website.
Q: Where can I complete my continuing education credits?
A: Courses can be completed online (live or self-paced), or in a physical class or conference room. Every course must be approved by DBR for credit to count towards the required 24 hours due by April 30th on even numbered years.

A: You cannot carry-forward any additional credits from a prior renewal cycle, it unfortunately does not work that way. 24 credits every two years, simple. That said, you are more than welcome to complete more than 24 credits, but don’t complete less if you want to keep your real estate license active in good standing.
